An AI Agent That Actually Does Things: Inside Orion's Agentic Capabilities

Most products that call themselves "AI agents" are chat windows with better copywriting. Orion is not that. It posts to social media, navigates websites, fetches bank reports, posts invoices, and writes content, on its own, without someone copying an answer out of a chat box and pasting it somewhere else.

01 / THE DIFFERENCE THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS

"Agentic" is doing a lot of work in that word. Here's what it means for Orion

There is a real, useful distinction between a chatbot and an agent, and it has nothing to do with how fluent the responses sound. A chatbot answers a question and stops. An agent takes the next step itself: it goes and does the thing the answer implied. Orion is built on the second definition. It doesn't just tell you what your latest bank statement probably says, it goes and fetches the report. It doesn't just draft a social post and wait for you to copy it into a browser tab, it posts it. That gap, between describing an action and performing it, is the entire premise of the product.

We built Orion as a personal AI agent, not a personal AI assistant, on purpose. The word choice matters because it sets expectations correctly. An assistant that only talks is still useful. But it leaves a human in the loop for every single execution step, which means the AI part of the workflow ends exactly where the tedious part begins. Orion is designed to close that gap instead of stopping right before it.

The test of an agent isn't how well it can describe an action. It's whether it goes and performs the action itself.

02 / WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES

Five things, stated plainly, because vague agent marketing is easy to write and hard to trust

We would rather list Orion's capabilities in plain language than describe them in the abstract, because "agentic AI" as a phrase has been stretched to mean almost anything. Here is what Orion does, specifically:

None of these five things is individually exotic. Web browsing, financial data retrieval, invoice posting, and content generation all exist as separate tools already. What makes Orion an agent rather than a bundle of utilities is that it chains these actions together and executes them, instead of handing a human five separate outputs to act on manually.

03 / WHERE THE INTELLIGENCE COMES FROM

Claude-enhanced, under a partnership we take seriously

Orion runs Claude-enhanced under our Anthropic partnership. Data Ingenious Global Limited is a Registered member of Anthropic's Claude Partner Network, and Orion is one of a small number of Data products being built with Claude under that partnership, alongside XgenPlus, Cognify, and Spamjadoo. That is not an incidental detail. It is the difference between a model that can hold a fluent conversation and a model that can be trusted to reason through a multi-step task well enough to actually execute it: read a page, decide what it means, decide what to do next, and keep that chain coherent across several actions instead of one reply.

We are direct about what that partnership does and does not mean. Claude's models run on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure, so relevant data passes through that infrastructure to use them. For workloads where that is not acceptable, where data has to stay entirely on a customer's own infrastructure, that is a different product conversation, and one we have honestly on our AI & Anthropic page rather than blurring the two together here. Orion, as built today, is the cloud-enhanced, act-on-your-behalf product. It is not positioned as an on-premises data-sovereignty tool, and we would rather say that plainly than let the marketing imply otherwise.

04 / WHY THIS IS THE HARDER PRODUCT TO BUILD

A chatbot that's wrong wastes your time. An agent that's wrong does something

Building a chat interface and building an agent that acts are not the same order of difficulty, and it is worth being honest about why. When a chatbot gives a bad answer, the cost is a person reading something unhelpful and trying again. When an agent posts something, fetches something, or files something, the cost of a bad decision is a real action that already happened. Posting an invoice, publishing to a social account, or pulling a bank report all involve stepping into systems that expect correctness, not just fluency.

That is precisely why we built Orion on Claude rather than treating model choice as an afterthought. Reasoning quality is not a nice-to-have for an agent that touches financial reports and public posts, it is the whole safety margin. It is also why we describe Orion's capability list in specific, bounded terms (these five things) instead of the open-ended "does anything you ask" framing a lot of agent products lean on. An agent is more trustworthy when you know exactly what it is authorized and built to go and do.

05 / WHERE ORION FITS IN DATA'S BROADER AI WORK

One product among several, each solving a different problem on purpose

Orion sits inside a portfolio where each product is built for a specific job rather than as a general-purpose demo of "AI capability." XgenPlus brings Claude into email composition and spam classification, on infrastructure we have run since 1999. Cognify uses it for team productivity tracking. Spamjadoo uses it for smarter threat detection. Orion is the one built specifically to act on a person's behalf across social, web, banking, invoicing, and content tasks. We think that specificity is the point. A product that tries to be everyone's general AI agent ends up being no one's reliable agent for anything in particular.

If you are evaluating agentic AI products for your own business, the question worth asking any vendor, including us, is the same one we tried to answer plainly above: what, specifically, does the agent do without a human in the loop, and what does it hand back to a human instead. If a vendor can't answer that in a short, concrete list, the "agentic" label is probably marketing rather than architecture.

If you want an AI agent that does real work instead of just describing it, our Orion product page has the full capability list, and our AI & Anthropic page explains how the underlying Claude partnership fits into the rest of what we build.
